Say Cheese!
Almost everyday we have a little "photosession". Of course this all takes place in the puppy nursery. However when you are still such a little pup, mom and in our case even dad are always by your side. Max is keeping an eye on how things are going with his youngest daughter during the photosession.

2 weken / 2 weeks
The pups are exactly 2 weeks old today. They are about 580 grams/1.2 lbs. All pups have opened their eyes, although you can't always tell because (besides eating) sleeping is their favorite thing to do. We also clipped their nails for the first time. En today was the first time they were dewormed. There were clearly to opinions: 1. hmmm different... what is this? 2. YUCK, GO AWAY!

Peek-a-boo
Girl number 4 is "the fastest" of the bunch for now. This morning we have noticed she was the first to have opened her eyes. They immediately look very different!

Papa Max
Max en zijn puppy look-a-like zoontje
Max and his puppy look-a-like son
Here is Max and his littermates in a doggy bed. He is the one in the middle. The coloring on his face is just the same as this pup.
The pups are born deaf and blind. In the first two weeks after the birth these senses will continue to develop. When they are about two weeks old, they are able to hear and the eyes will open. When they are born they are able to smell and feel. They will find their way to their mother very easily and they will learn to recognize the smell of their brothers and sisters.

1 Week
Max met his little sons and daughters, well from a bit of a distance at least, cause mommy Pink is not very amused to see other visitors yet. And she is right of course. Max really had no clue as to why Pinky was paying such a close attention to his every move. He didn't think the pups were that interesting :-)

4 dagen oud / 4 days old
Today we had our first puppyvisitors. We normally don't let anyone near the litter the first 3 weeks, however being the grandmother and father and uncle and aunts of these pups does put you in a very special position of course. The pups and Pink were given a lovely puppyshower gift with all kinds of goodies for Pink and her pups!

PUPPIES!!!!!!!!

Week 9
WEEK 9
The pregnancy of a dog
WEEK 9
Most puppies are born between the 58th and 63rd day. I think the average length of gestation with the Jack Russell Terrier is about 62 days. Every birth is different, special and exciting. One litter might be here in just a couple of hours; others can take days (and/or nights) of restless scratching (making a nest).
This will the last update about Pink's pregnancy. Hopefully our next message will be that Pinky has had her litter of healthy looking pups. Pink's belly is now 25.02 inch! She grew more than a full inch in just a few days time. We are all set to greet the puppies!

Week 8
WEEK 8
The pregnancy of a dog
WEEK 8
According to experts the puppies are viable from the 58th day of the pregnancy. You can now feel and even see the movements the pups make in the mothers belly. The whelpbox is ready, and every now and than she hops on in to check it out....
Week 8 is almost over and we are going into week 9 of the pregnancy. The last week! Pink now weighs 22 lbs! And her belly measures 24 inches. She is glad the temperature has dropped down a put, this makes life a lot easier for her. She is resting most of the day, but there is always time to play with her ball and have a little action. I think her pups will be just as active is she is, cause you put you hand on her belly you can feel the little ones kicking. Here is a clip of Pink playing in the yard with her favorite ball.

Week 7
WEEK 7
The pregnancy of a dog
WEEK 7
On a X-ray we can now see a complete skeleton. We can listen to the heartbeat of the pups with a stethoscope. We take the future mom outside for a small walk every now and than, she needs her exercise, although she would not mind laying on the couch the entire day....
We took Pink to the vet yesterday. Just to make sure she is OK. Our trip from Canada to the Netherlands could have had great impact on her and the pups, and for that reason we decided to go for a check up. Pink is in good health and we did an ultrasound to see the pups. There was lot's puppy activities going on in there! They are too big right now to count how many there are in there. But fortunately mother and pups are doing good!
